Through the lens of my camera I seek to share joy and pain, strength and resilience, community and abundance, beauty and heart-break. My approach is one of collaboration with the subjects of my photographs as well as those who may view my photos with a perspective that is different from mine. By building relationships and spending time with people and their stories, I hope to use my camera as a tool for justice, mercy, and learning.
My inspiration comes from many photographers, but this quote from Gordon Parks in particular speaks to me: “I saw that the camera could be a weapon against poverty, against racism, against all sorts of social wrongs. I knew at that point I had to have a camera.”
