Between 2018 and 2022 I have had the privilege of visiting the Texas/Mexico border several times to volunteer with assisting families who have crossed the border and entered the United States in order to escape horrible situations in their home countries. Over the years the situations for immigrants have changed with the U.S. policies. From overflowing respite centers in McAllen, Texas to tent cities in Matamoros, Mexico, immigration policies impact how people are welcomed (or not) into our country. The stories and situations are heart-breaking and the ways in which people - moms, dads, children, grandparents - are treated are often distressing. These images are from different years of visiting the border.
